Keane hoping for six signings
Roy Keane faced the media for the first time this season this afternoon and gave an update on Sunderland's progress in the transfer market.
In a nutshell, Keane is hoping to make his first signing of the summer in the next 48 hours and aims have half-a-dozen new players at the club by this time next week - but Romanian defender Dorin Goian will not be one of them.
Sunderland have been linked with Goian for over a week now but they have been unable to agree a fee with Goian's club Steaua Bucharest and Keane says that deal is now dead in the water.
It's been a long summer for Sunderland fans with little in the way of firm transfer news but Keane insists the club has been working hard to land the players on his list of tagets.
Keane said: "I have got some good bids in and I think we are close with some of them. Possibly in the next 48 hours."
Sunderland fly out to Portugal tomorrow afternoon and Keane admits it is unlikely that any deals will be done before the club's first friendly against Sporting Lisbon on Sunday night, but he is keeping his fingers crossed that there will be new faces ahead of the second pre-season game next Wednesday.
Any new signings over the next week are likely to jet straight out to Portugal to join up with the squad.
