Sunderland ace Chopra: Why I quit Newcastle

SUNDERLAND hitman Michael Chopra has revealed he had to leave boyhood idols Newcastle for the good of his career.

Chopra is preparing to face his old club tomorrow in the Wear-Tyne derby at the Stadium of Light, two years after he left Tyneside.

The 24-year-old came through the ranks at St James's Park, but feels he was never given the first-team chances he deserved, and in the end he left to join Cardiff City rather than 'destroy' his career by staying on the fringes of the Magpies first-team.
