Whitehead: Sunderland's fate is in our hands
DEAN WHITEHEAD says last night's Tyne-Tees derby result makes no difference to Sunderland - the Black Cats have to make their own way to safety!
Newcastle gave their survival chances a boost as they beat Middlesbrough 3-1 at St James' Park to leapfrog Hull City and climb out of the bottom three on goal difference.
The Magpies' win also cut fifth-bottom Sunderland's safety margin to just two points, with the Black Cats on 36 points while fourth-bottom United and third-bottom Hull are both on 34.
