SUNDERLAND are prepared to launch a fourth attempt to sign Reading's Irish international midfielder Stephen Hunt, despite repeatedly failing to persuade him to move to Wearside.
Hunt has been a long-standing Black Cats target and was top of Roy Keane's wanted list at one stage as he looked to add some much-needed creativity to a pedestrian midfield.
However, relations between the two clubs slowly soured as Reading reacted angrily to what they believed to be deliberately underhand attempts to unsettle the winger, to such an extent that they refused to do business with the Wearsiders last summer.
'Good things come to those who wait', as the saying goes.
And that's what Sunderland fans will be pinning their hopes on as they await Roy Keane's first proper summer signing.
More than 30 names have been linked with a move to Wearside this summer but so far the only new arrival has been teenage Aussie striker Matt Fletcher, who will join the academy ranks rather than the first-team.
That lack of activity - or so it must seem from the outside - makes for worrying times when other clubs are signing players and strengthening squads.
